once around the wreck/labor day weekend

The great poet laureate of Margaritaville once said:

” It is hard to reason with the hurricane season”

This statement is a fact when it comes to planning for this year’s

Once around the Wreck Paddle.

Our event will be held on Labor Day weekend Saturday, Sept. 2 at 10am.

Let’s get everyone on the beach by 9:30ish.

As of now the weather is looking most promising for a Saturday morning paddle. Light winds are forecast for the morning with the breeze picking up later in the day. (Unlike Sunday’s forecast which has the sailors jumping for joy!)

Please bring your pfd! The aqua cops have been around often and we don’t need to raise funds to bail someone out of the brig!

Join us as we gather all manner of paddle craft for a trip around the Sherkston ship wreck. Then gather in front of ledge 12  for some post paddle treats, make new friends, catch up with old friends and swap some stories.

A great tradition to begin the countdown to the end of the summer of 2017
Reef Warrior swag will be available for purchase.

If any one would like to donate some time to help set up or any goodies to share (morning snacks/water/soft drinks/ice,  ect.) please stop by and see Lou or Gail at ledge 12.

Please spread the word and let’s attempt to get over 100 paddlers involved!

See you all Saturday morning! Stay tuned for updates! (just in case :))

Reef Warriors support Adaptive Watersports

As Reef Warriors or followers of our site you know we are passionate about enjoying time on the water. Gidget and I are taking that passion and helping open up the world of watersports to a wider group. We are supporting  the efforts of Steve Spitz and WNY Adaptive Watersports and the newly formed WNY chapter of Team River Runner on behalf of the reef warriors.

WNY Adaptive Watersports is a local program which helps  the disabled and physically challenged enjoy the watersports including sailing, waterskiing, scuba and fishing. The kayaking component needed more attention so that spurred the linkage with Team River Runner

Team river runner is a national program to help disabled veterans kayak and sup. The newly formed WNY Chapter is in its infancy and is looking to grow in this region. Although its focus is on disabled veterans the WNY chapter is opening this up to the community at large.

We are spreading the word about these programs and hoping to stir up more support. Gidget and I were involved in an early planning meeting and will be volunteering at some of the upcoming water events. We wish to spread the word among the Reef faithful and ask for any help you can provide.

At this early stage the WNY chapter of Team River Runner is looking for support in many different ways. This may be in the form of gear (kayaks, gently used life jackets) your time for organizational meetings and paddle events and of course monetary donations.

We hope you will consider sharing what you can to  give back to the community and help others find that same enjoyment on the water whether it be a calm paddle or catching a wave!

Thanks to everyone who share some pics of the Labor day paddle.
Christina, Dave, Stan and Gail, awesome shots.
I have had great feed back from those who participated last weekend, a few suggestions were made that a sunset or moon lite paddle and bonfire may be fun. The next full moon is 9/16 we will watch for the weather conditions and spread the word if it is a go.
