Once Around the Wreck/Labor Day Weekend

Thanks to everyone who braved the chill to participate/help out/ and share  photos for the  Once around the Wreck Paddle.
Even though the morning was a bit cold with a very uncommon east wind we still had a great turn out for this event. 70 +  paddlers braved the elements.  Give yourselves a round of applause!
The magic of the Reef was apparent the whole weekend, as the early morning chill made way to a warm day with a nice east wind that created a breezy, flat water, fun Hobie day. Then the remains of Hurricane Harvey cleared the beach in record time and left us with a Sunday Funday.
Waking up to waves for breakfast, a 2+ hr surf session turned into a great day for the sailors lucky enough to be here.
Big winds were forecast for Labor day Monday although they never materialized, it was an outstanding day,  the warmth and sunshine provided a perfect day at the Reef.
Here is a video recap of the paddle and funday Sunday.
Enjoy

once around the wreck/labor day weekend

The great poet laureate of Margaritaville once said:

” It is hard to reason with the hurricane season”

This statement is a fact when it comes to planning for this year’s

Once around the Wreck Paddle.

Our event will be held on Labor Day weekend Saturday, Sept. 2 at 10am.

Let’s get everyone on the beach by 9:30ish.

As of now the weather is looking most promising for a Saturday morning paddle. Light winds are forecast for the morning with the breeze picking up later in the day. (Unlike Sunday’s forecast which has the sailors jumping for joy!)

Please bring your pfd! The aqua cops have been around often and we don’t need to raise funds to bail someone out of the brig!

Join us as we gather all manner of paddle craft for a trip around the Sherkston ship wreck. Then gather in front of ledge 12  for some post paddle treats, make new friends, catch up with old friends and swap some stories.

A great tradition to begin the countdown to the end of the summer of 2017
Reef Warrior swag will be available for purchase.

If any one would like to donate some time to help set up or any goodies to share (morning snacks/water/soft drinks/ice,  ect.) please stop by and see Lou or Gail at ledge 12.

Please spread the word and let’s attempt to get over 100 paddlers involved!

See you all Saturday morning! Stay tuned for updates! (just in case :))

Waves really?

Casey’s Blog:
Its funny, pretty much every day of my life the surfing topic comes up, and then someone will say “waves on a lake really!” I want to blurt out 😆, they call it a great lake for a reason, they produce some of the best waves in the world, why do you think there is 1000s of shipwrecks on them, do you live in a cave? But I don’t say that, I always nod my head and say yup, it’s got waves 😉.
Look at this upcoming forecast for Da Reef

Farewell to summer 2015

Let’s wish good luck to Casey, Cam, Sandro, and Dave, who are sharing the Reef Warrior stoke with everyone at wave jam in Hatteras.

Bring home some hardware boys!

Back here at Da’ Reef the lake is flat which makes for great sunsets.

This is the last sunset of the summer of 2015.

Liquid Crystal

Casey’s Blog:

Every year before the Lake starts to freeze and after the ice melts, The water gets so clear you think your in some tropical paradise. Until you put your toes into 40f water temp. That always snaps you out of it. This year it’s definitely the clearest I have ever seen it, just like liquid crystal. Here are a couple of neat shots from the other day that really shows the clarity.
